Hair help

I need a haircut, real bad. My hair is long, flat, and sticky from static. So I'm getting a haircut on Friday. I know what I want to do, I'm just not sure it's still considered fashionable. So I come to you, my blogging friends, my consultants, my minions (just kidding about the consultants).

Here's basically what my hair looks like now, but it's longer and has a lot more static.

It's a dark photo, but I think you can see my hair fairly well. It's okay, but kind of blah.

So, here's what I want to do:
No, not the Mickey ears, although those are super hot. My haircut. The short, flippy, fun, not staticky haircut.

See, here's another photo.

I like this cut because it's short, and I don't have to worry about how much my hair is going to stick to my face when I pull it out of my scarf and coat. And I don't have to worry so much about a winter hat completely ruining the delicate balance of style because it's not heavy. Plus it doesn't take as long to dry. Plus it's fun and not boring. The cons are as follows: I have to get my hair cut more often ($$$). It often takes several bobby pins and clips to put it all back (not a huge deal, but a drawback).

The cons don't even come close to outweighing the positives, so here's my real concern: I feel like my ability to know what's current is waning. I look at what the yunguns are wearing and think, "Dude, that's stupid." (And not good stupid, if stupid can even be used to describe something good anymore.) Are people going to look at my hair and think, "Wow, that old lady is WAY stuck in 2005!" (Or whenever it was that I had that haircut.) Or does it matter? My sister KL has a theory that for some women you can tell what year they graduated from high school by their haircut. (Think over processed permed/dyed/permed again hair with big bangs. When did someone with that do graduate from high school?) I don't want to be the lady with the hair that screams, "I graduated more than ten years ago and am desperately trying to hold on to my youth."

So, this is what I need to know: I like the way the cut looks on me, but is it outdated?

Minions, consultants, friends, can you answer my humble plea?

P.S. If you hate the haircut, feel free to let me know. This is an all honesty zone. I can take it (I think).

  1. Remember when I first moved in and had super long hair and then chopped it days after Franklin's arrival? Well I've had the same A-line in back, long in the front haircut for years. I had it for years before I grew it out and have now had it for three years since I chopped it. I like it for me. It's easy, but yes, I do have to cut it more. But since I've got thin hair, it is more practical to keep it short. It looks fuller that way. You know those old ladies who have the really thin hair that is super stringy and hangs past their butts? You definitely don't want that. So I say go with the more voluminous haircut. If you don't like it, you can always grow it out. But in winter, with the super dry, staticky air, go with the shorter cut. Post pics of the aftermath. xoxo

  2. I've actually been having some of the same thoughts about haircuts lately. I like one but think it might be lame or outdated, then I see a really cute girl with the same do, and I realized it's probably about attitude! I say go for it. Your hair looks great long or short. You only live once and your hair will always keep growing. p.s. i hope you don't mind all my comments lately. i get a kick out of your blog.

  3. I'm not a good person to say whether something is outdated or not - I'm always asking that myself!

  4. I love it! I'm no style maven, but I believe in going for what looks good on you rather than trying to keep up with trends. You don't want to be one of those women who look like they're trying too hard to stay young, either. And it's not like this style is overly trendy, like that spiky flip chicken-butt style from a couple years ago. Go for it!
