Oven S'mores

I read a lot of blogs. I mean a lot. It's a bit obnoxious. However, thanks to my reading I've gotten some great ideas. Like this one: oven baked s'mores.

I thought I would share my experience with you.

Along about the long 4th of July weekend, TC and I happened into a grocery store. And in this grocery store, they had cleverly placed all the ingredients for s'mores at the very front of the store. And as we walked along, I was forced to pick up some graham crackers, jumbo marshmallows and chocolate bars. The idea for s'mores had already been planted in my head, and with the ingredients right there, it was as though the universe was telling me to make these post haste.

There they were, crying out to me. All together in a convenient display.

So, following the directions from online, I roasted two marshmallows per cracker square and put several little rectangles of chocolate and what resulted was a sticky mess and gooey deliciousness, the likes of which I had never tasted. While delicious, I found the over-the-top gooeyness to be, well, over the top.

So my next venture was scaled back: one marshmallow, one square of chocolate. Less gooey, same delicious s'more.

I also discovered something else: it is far too hot to heat up the oven for a few minutes of roasting, so I've taken to using our toaster oven. If you don't have one, then just use your oven.

So here's my recipe for success.

Place one marshmallow on each graham cracker square. Pop in the oven at 400 degrees F for about five minutes until the marshmallow is all brown and melty and roasty. If you use a toaster oven, I've found that turning it on to the lowest setting (mine could just be massively busted) for two or three minutes does the trick.

While the marshmallows are doing their thing, it is a good time to take the chocolate out and admire it. You can smell it, handle it, caress it, and otherwise get indecent with it. No one will ever know.

Once your marshmallows are roasted to a golden brown, remove from oven and put a square of chocolate down. You can put more if you want, this is completely up to you. But now is when the magic happens. Check this out.

You see that? The chocolate melts all over the marshmallow. Yum!

Put another graham cracker on top, and there you have it: s'mores.

But wait, there's more (ha ha. you see what I did there?).

If you want to see what's happening underneath, lift up the top cracker.  I dare you.

Now in real life, you'll likely find this appetizing. In photos, I'm not so sure. But this is what the innards look like.

Enjoy!
